Ninetoes got his hands on the movie Voidance, but was it worth his time?
Directed by Marianna Dean
Written by Simon X. Frederick
Starring Zoe Cunningham, James Cosmo, and Eloise Lovell Anderson

Hey there, movie lovers! It is your old pal, Ninetoes, coming to you from Ninetoes HQ. Today, I am taking a look at Voidance. I have popcorn in my system and my thinking cap on, so let’s get to it!
In this movie, we have a new agent who is given a mission. What becomes apparent is that this mission is actually a final exam, and she has a limited number of attempts before she fails. It is her shot to get off of desk duty forever. Can she succeed before she fails and is tasked to the desk forever?
At its heart, the movie makes a statement about blind loyalty to a leader and government. You see this in the main character, Alana. She is faithful to her organization, her government, and its leader, the Shah. As the story unfolds, you see that this is not only a test of a future agent’s abilities (which she has none) but also a test of loyalty. The ultimate question becomes whether she can remain loyal after everything she has seen.
The acting, filming style, and special effects are reminiscent of early 1980s Dr. Who episodes. In a way this is both good and bad. Sure, it hit my nostalgia factor as that teen who caught Dr. Who on PBS, but for me, that was 40 years ago, and my tastes have advanced.
The story is confusing to start, and then when it is time to get to the point, it is almost a miss. If this is a training mission, and supposed to simulate a real-life mission, the agent behind it would not get something along the lines of 15 attempts. Yet, faster than you can say “Groundhog Day in Space”, she is getting a do-over. As far as the story goes, I actually forgot what the mission’s basis was and just wanted to get to the point. When the point hit, and the statement was made, I actually looked at my clock and realized I would not get that hour and a half back.
It is not all that bad, but on the other hand, it is not all that good either. It sits somewhere on the fence and just needs to be tipped in either direction.
This movie is good for anyone who just wants to decompress for a little while and watch an 80s-style science fiction film.
Until the next time, I bid you happy viewing.
