Hey there, movie lovers! It is your old pal, Ninetoes, coming to you from Ninetoes HQ. Today I am taking a look at Bad Day at the Office. I have popcorn in my system, and my thinking cap on, so let’s get to it!
I was sent a preview for this movie before I ever got the opportunity for a screener, and I was amped for it. The preview was go-go-go from the jump, and I was afraid that it was going to be a case of showing the best parts in the previews. Then I got the screener…
…now I have to warn anyone wanting to see this movie that has issues with flashing lights or fast camera work: this movie is filled with it. Let’s just say, if you have difficulty watching someone play a first-person shooter, you will not be able to handle this movie. It is all in first-person view, and the camera will change very fast between characters. You will see them running, fighting, shooting, puking, all in first-person view. This was tried for about fifteen minutes at the end of the 2005 movie Doom (based on the video game).

Now, director Chee Keong Chueng gives us a total movie that plays like a video game. It is a novel way to approach a movie, and as much as I wanted to like this movie, what it ended up doing was making me dizzy. There is very little downtime for the viewer to catch their breath or, at the very least, give their eyes a rest. Things move fast, real fast, and at times I had to force myself to give my eyes a break.
The story is a good one. A man wakes up in a hotel room and does not know who he is. There is a dead body in the bathtub, blood on the rug, and the room in total disarray. This was one hell of a party, right? Wrong! Now the police are here, the hotel maid is your only ally, and you are now on the run with a bounty on your head thanks to the Russian mob. It is almost like The Running Man, except anyone with a weapon is in it to take you out!
The acting was well done also, with a lot of top names contributing: John Hannah, Radha Mitchell, and Lana Parilla, just to name a few. I actually believed in Hannah’s “man on the run”, and he gave the character depth. Mitchell was the perfect “buddy” on the run with him, and Parilla pulled off the gorgeous mob wife perfectly.
One final word of advice: if you do decide to watch this movie, wait until the very end. Like, when the screen goes dark and the credits roll. The final moment is what sets the movie from “eh” to “really good”!
If you are into hardcore action and first-person shooters, you will love this movie!
I give this one 3.5 popcorn buckets out of 5.
