Hey there, book lovers! It’s your old pal, Ninetoes, coming to you from Ninetoes Loves Books Headquarters. Today, I am looking at Luisa Colon’s Bad Moon Rising. I have coffee in my system and my thinking cap on, so let’s get to it!
This is the second book by Luisa Colon that I have read, and I am noticing a theme in her work…family dynamics. For better or worse, family plays a big part in her work (like in her newest book, Kinderlieb), and this one is no different.
The story follows two people, Elodia and Gabriel. Elodia is pretty much an outcast at school. Something tragic happened in her past, but she cannot remember what it was. She lives with her father and has vague memories of her mother, whom she really wants to see. Let’s face it, a girl in her teen years really needs her mother’s guidance, but all she has is her father, who is trying, but sometimes that is not enough- or can it be too much?
Then we have Gabriel. He has been bounced from group home to group home, and all he wants is his actual parents so he can show them just how good he can really be. Someone in Gabriel’s past has betrayed him, and now his mind is set on revenge.
These two characters are on a collision course, and it will be epic.
The writing is sharp, and the pace is consistent. The character development is satisfying, and yes, you will love and hate some of the characters in this book. As I got deeper into the book, I noticed a bit of a time…hop without it being said, and that part works out for the best. Yes, it was a tad confusing, but it did come together well.
If there is a ding in this book, it is the ending. It just ended, and I felt as if something could have been added for some better resolution.
If you are a fan of family drama, some teen drama, and a dose of horror, then this is the book for you!
I give this one 4 bookmarks out of 5!
