Spooky Soulmates

Liz Ramos, under the supervision of Lucifer the cat, shares some spellbinding ideas to make your soul tying rituals perfect…

Hey witches! Love is in the air here at the Ramos house. My 5th wedding anniversary/11th anniversary of being with my husband is coming up on the 22nd, and with my very own personal Gomez Addams telling me to start planning a 10yr vow renewal, I wanted to share some wedding/anniversary ideas for my fellow spooky sweethearts. Come on over, pour yourself a steaming cup of love potion (the coffee wedding favor we had at our Harry Potter themed wedding), and make some magical manifestations with me!

First things first – what theme do you want? Are you doing classic Monsters (Frankenstein’s monster and The Bride), Phantom of the Opera, Addams, Witchy? While this may seem trivial to start with, I found that this was an anchor point in all the planning. How do you know the color scheme if you don’t have a theme? When I was planning my wedding, I was caught between Potter and Addams – and my husband, being the wonderful person he is, suggested I do Potter first because it was my childhood.

Next, the location. Are you doing a local haunt, or somewhere hopelessly and hauntingly romantic? If you are a Satanist or otherwise non-religious, The Satanic Temple in Salem has a ceremony space and also has a suite available to rent for accommodations. Also available to conduct your ceremony are Landon & Lucipurr (and possibly now Purrsephone), or Borah!, everyone’s favorite Salem witch. Another spellbinding location is New Orleans, and Alchemy Events NOLA can help you make your witchy wedding dreams come true!

Something everyone talks about that nobody wants to admit to judging – the favors. What are you leaving for your guests besides the memories of your special day? Do NOT be like my husband’s niece, who had an extravagant wedding at an exclusive country club, only to give out ring dishes that were at the local Dollar Tree! And yes, before anyone comes at me, I was able to pull it up on their website to show my Mother In Law I wasn’t being a hater! If you are working magic on a budget, that’s totally fine, but please be thoughtful when doing favors if you choose to do them. When we did our wedding, we worked with a local coffee brewery to do up single pot brew bags with a custom label on the front of them, with a classic roast, a decaf roast, and a flavored roast- and these were such a hit that we still get asked if we have any left! Options I have seen for the witchy wedding include a mystery tarot card and crystal, custom mini planchettes/boards, mini love potion bottles, etc. Personally, I love something consumable or useful that I am not just going to put on a shelf and collect dust. I am not one for coozies, shot glasses, etc. When I do my renewal in 2032, I am thinking of doing some witch ball ornaments as the favor this time – who couldn’t use some more love in their life!?

However you choose to celebrate, remember that no matter what, your union is what truly matters the most. At the end of the day it is not about the cake, the decor, the venue… It’s about you and your spooky soulmate preparing to enjoy this life, the afterlife, the next life, and any/every combination of those together. The most important part of marriage is simply love and the choice to love when things get hard and messy. May your union be blessed and may you find more love and happiness that you could ever dream of. Blessed be witches!
