TRUE CRIME FRIDAY: LINDSAY CLANCY

Ninetoes was caught by surprise by the Lindsay Clancy Case, which just started. In case he is not the only one, he wanted to bring you up to speed.

Hey there, true crime lovers! It is your favorite investigator, Ninetoes, coming to you from Ninetoes HQ, and I am on the beat with The Lindsay Clancy Case. I have my notebook in hand and coffee in my system, so let’s get to it!

When I woke up this morning (07/28/26) and the news cycle started, I heard “…the trial of the mom who killed her kids…” Wait. What? I assure you I have not been sleeping under a rock, and yes, this one caught me by surprise, so I decided to do a little digging and share with you what I found out. Needless to say, I will give updates at the end of the trial and sentencing (if necessary).

Lindsay Musgrove was born on August 11, 1990, and was raised in Wallingford, Connecticut. She trained to be a nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital, and worked there as a labor and delivery nurse for nine years.

In December 2016, she married Patrick Clancy. They had three children: Cora, born in December 2017; Dawson, born in September 2019; and Calla,n born May 2022. Her mother-in-law described Lindsay to the grand jury as “…a fun-loving, doting wife and mother” and went on to say “She loved her kids, and she was a nurturing mother who smiled all the time.”

After the birth of both Cora and Dawson, Lindsay experienced postpartum anxiety. After the birth of Dawson, she managed her symptoms with meditation, exercise, and therapy. Her symptoms grew in intensity after the birth of Callan. She would experience periods of hypomanic behavior (heightened energy and mood), followed by debilitating anxiety, insomnia (only sleeping three hours a night), and exhaustion during the day.

Lindsay sought treatment with postpartum mental health specialists, but was only diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. In December 2022, Lindsay insisted she be hospitalized for her mental health concerns. She never got a more severe mental health diagnosis than what she had. Finally, on January 1, 2023, she was admitted to McLean Hospital, a top psychiatric institution, but she was discharged after five days.

Then, on January 24, 2023, she took her daughter to the pediatrician, and then played in the snow for a while with all of her children. Her husband was out getting takeout and picking up a prescription at the pharmacy. When her husband came home, he found Lindsay outside, semi-conscious and bleeding. She had tried to commit suicide by jumping out of the second-story window. When he went into the house, he found his children in the basement. All three children had exercise bands wrapped around their necks. Cora and Dawson were pronounced dead at the hospital. Callan was put on life support, but died on January 27, 2023. All three children died of ligature strangulation. Lindsay was paralyzed as a result of her fall and is in a wheelchair.

On February 7, 2023, Plymouth County’s District Attorney’s office announced Lindsay was arraigned from her hospital bed in Boston and charged with three counts of murder, strangulation, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for each child. She pleaded not guilty.

Lindsay Clancy’s trial began on July 20, 2026. There may be as many as 200 witnesses testifying at this trial. The charges for strangulation were dropped due to redundancy because the murders involved strangulation. The trial is expected to last approximately six to eight weeks.
