Healing Magic

Liz Ramos, under the supervision of Gaia the cat, discusses ways we can help our loved ones through their healing journeys.

Greetings witches! As friends and family gear up for an upcoming cancer benefit in honor of my Aunt Lynn, I wanted to share some of the magical and mundane ways we are supporting her on her journey.

As a Reiki Master/Teacher and witch, energy work is a focal point for a majority of my practice. It is so important to not only cast and work with the right energy, but to ensure the recipient is also in the best energy to receive the help. Before doing anything, it is important to receive consent to practice on their behalf. If someone is not a willing participant, then it is best to leave things be. If you have permission, it is important to know the extent you are able to work. Do they just want some positive energy, or are they open to workings to aid them on their specific journey as much as you can? With my Aunt, I have permission to do Reiki and energy work on her physically and with a willing surrogate acting as an antennae, make teas to promote healing and rest, make gemstone jewelry and charms, and just about anything else I would like to do. Ancestor work and calling my grandparents and great grandparents in for protection, comfort, and guidance has also been approved and appreciated.

If you are an herbalist and want to make teas, tinctures, or other remedies to aid the person, PLEASE be mindful that some herbs can seriously harm them due to counteractions with medications or treatments they are receiving from medical professionals. Best practice is to give a list of ingredients to the person so they can ask their doctor to make sure these items are safe to use. Respecting privacy and HIPPA are so important as practitioners, so we should always be including and allowing our loved ones to lead our assistance to them. This also goes for homemade foods – primarily dark, leafy greens and blood thinners like Warfarin. If your loved one is doing physically debilitating treatments like chemo and radiation, make them some easily frozen meals (and portion them out if you can) so that all they have to do is heat and serve. Use your kitchen witchery when creating these meals to infuse love, healing, protection, and anything else you would like to add.

If you are someone who wants to make spells, jars, or sigils instead of a more mundane approach, consider abundance/money magic. Treatments, travel, meals, or other expenses quickly add up, and any little bit of funds or price reductions/free services help. You can burn Joss money, make a money bowl, spell jars, dressed candles, etc. Make them a protection sachet to put into their car for safety driving to and from appointments. Sigils can be drawn for healing and for a reduction of negative symptoms and can be kept in the recipient’s wallet.

However you choose to support your loved one, always remember that no matter how much you do magically or mundanely, your love and support through it all is the most important magic you can provide. Happy casting witches!
