Witchy Wednesday: Birthday Blessings

Greetings witches! In honor of the lovely Mumu’s birthday this past Sunday (who also happens to be my best friend), I wanted to share some ways to add magical moments to your special celebration.

If you are making your own special meals or drinks (taking into consideration some people are brunch people, others like nice dinners), incorporate some kitchen witchery into them. Use herbs, spices, and ingredients that welcome what you want to invite into this next trip around the sun – mint for money, rose for love, cinnamon for fast action… you get the idea. As a reiki practitioner, I like to infuse reiki energy into the dishes as well. Tell the ingredients and cookware what they are making and the manifestations they are helping to create over the next year with this meal.

Meditation and other mindfulness practices are wonderful ways to release, reset, and refocus your intentions. Thank the past year for the lessons, growth, and opportunities provided to you. Let them go with love. Spend some time to decide what you would like to bring forward into this new age. I like to look at my New Year’s Resolutions and see where I’m at, and look at other personal goals to see where I want to improve before the next birthday. Once you’ve decided what to carry forward, put it to the Universe that you have chosen your path moving forward. Another exercise to use if you are not a meditator is to create a vision board. Put your new age/age you will be turning and write/paste images of what you would like to achieve on it for the year. Keep it in a space where you will see it every day.

Spell jars for the year are also a wonderful option for bringing in the new energy. Take some time to write down your wishes, gather crystals, herbs, and anything else you would like to add to it. Spend time being mindful and intention  focused when crafting the jar. If you want to do a release from the prior year, do a cord-cutting from this year to last year to keep that energy in the past.

Lastly but most certainly not least, is candle magic. We all know the ritual – the gathering around the birthday person and chanting the birthday song before the blowing out of the candles. This candle magic is a powerful manifestation of magic that we often take for granted as a silly children’s ritual. By focusing the intentions and focusing on the force through the blow, we send our desires into the Universe. If you are alone or not indulging in sweet treats, you can still use candle magic. Light the candles and soak in their light. Visualize the flames burning with the power of your desires and all that you wish to bring into the world. Allow the candles to safely burn out (chime candles work well for this if you are on a short time frame.
