WITCHY WEDNESDAY: Lazy Witchcraft

Liz Ramos, under the supervision of Mr Darcy the cat, talks about the lazy days of witchcraft

Greetings witches! Are you also feeling lazy and burnt out? Have you been putting off rituals or simply not feeling like doing the things you want to do spiritually? If so, you’re not alone! From one perpetually exhausted pigeon to another, here are some ways I still get some magic into my day when I just don’t feel like doing anything.

If you like to read, make this time productive and learn about your craft. Even a few pages at a time so you can let the information sink in is beneficial. Audiobooks and historical podcasts are also great to listen to if you do need to do other things or just can’t focus on a physical book/computer. I personally love a good podcast when I am driving or need to do other adulting tasks and want something playing. If you prefer movies or visual learning, watch some documentaries about the subject you are interested in.

Take that nap. Yes, you read that correctly. When our bodies tell us they need rest, we need to listen to them if possible. Some of the best information or messages from the guides and ancestors come to us in dreams, so make a cup of blue lotus tea, put a pen and paper (or use the notes app) by the bed, and take that snooze! Record any dreams or information that comes to you. If you don’t dream, that’s ok. Give your body the rest it needs so it can be productive later. I cannot tell you the amount of times I have asked the ancestors to please give me some clarity and a peaceful rest so I could understand the guidance given during my nap, and woken up feeling better than ever and ready to tackle the rest of the day.

Light a candle. Yes, it is that easy. Doesn’t matter the color, size, scent – a simple candle is enough. Use this any way you see fit. I like the mini tealights at the bases of my deity statuettes to give thanks and praise, or light a larger one to bless and honor my home and the spirits who stay and protect us and this space (my home is a 1917 build, and our first family is still here. They go down to the basement on extremely cold nights and will still “tend the chimney”. I have watched shadows come down my stairs, walk to the basement, hear residual creaking of the door and the stairs creak, and then hear the fire being lit and smell the wood a few moments before our furnace kicks in. We also have another spirit from the earlier 1900s (I want to say 20’s-early 40s), and the elderly couple who owned this home prior to the man I purchased it from acquired it. They are Fred and Marianne. Fred smokes his cigars and walks around with a cough, checking on things and making sure we do maintenance on his home. Marianne tends to me when I am sick and checks on me, with her floral perfume wafting through the house occasionally. She also loves to bake and will wake me in the cool days to the smell of cookies or apple pies cooling. All of my spirits and the spirit of the house itself love being honored and remembered, so giving them a candle is an easy, lazy way to honor them.

However you decide to practice on your lazy lounge days, may you be peaceful and purposeful with your rest.
