TRUE CRIME FRIDAY: FILES UPDATES

Ninetoes has three updates on previous cases he reported on that occurred this past week!

Hey there, true crime lovers! It is your favorite investigator, Ninetoes, coming to you from Ninetoes HQ, and I am on the beat with updates on three previous cases I have reported on. I have my notebook in hand and coffee in my system, so let’s get to it!

Case 1) The Yogurt Shop Murders: The city of Austin, Texas, has agreed to pay $35 million to Robert Springsteen, Michael Scott, Forrest Wellborn, and the family of Maurice Pierce. These four men were falsely accused of the rape and murders of  Amy Ayers, Eliza Thompson, and the sisters Jennifer and Sarah Harbison. The settlement must still be approved by Austin City Council.

Case 2) Alex Murdaugh: The South Carolina State Supreme Court has overturned the murder convictions of Alex Murdaugh for the killings of his wife, Maggie, and his son, Paul, in 2021. Murdaugh’s lawyers pushed for a new trial due to the improper behavior of the county clerk, Becky Hill, who wrote a book about her time working on the trial. This decision did not set Alex Murdaugh free; he is still serving forty years for his financial crimes. The South Carolina Attorney General will seek to retry Murdaugh for the murders of his wife and son.

Case 3) Kouri Richins: Kouri Richins was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of her husband, Eric. Richins was found guilty of killing her husband by spiking his drink with a lethal dose of fentanyl. She was also found guilty of aggravated attempted murder for a failed attempt when she laced his sandwich with fentanyl on Valentine’s Day, and for insurance fraud when she took out a $100,000 life insurance policy and forged his signature. It was the fact that two attempts were made on her husband that swayed the judge to life in prison without parole as opposed to 25 years to life.

Until the next time, keep your pencils sharp and your paper dry. I wish you successful investigations.
