WITCHY WEDNESDAY: Word Wisdom

Liz Ramos, under the supervision of Anubis the cat, discusses the importance of choosing your words wisely.

Greetings Witches! As much as we get a little loosey-goosey in this weekly series in terms of rules and procedures, this week is a topic I cannot stress enough. As children, we are taught that “words have power” – and this is extremely important to remember in witchcraft and daily living. Keeping this lesson in a witchcraft perspective, we are aware that our words shape our reality. As within, so without – the words thought, spoken, and written are all extremely powerful.

As with all aspects of witchcraft, emotion and intention greatly affect our words. This can be seen in how we address each other. Tone, inflection- these things greatly change the meanings of our words and how they are perceived. However – where witchcraft is involved, we need to be extremely clear and precise with our words and what we want. The universe and guides do not work with nuances and subtle inflections. If you are going to use your words, they need to mean something – especially if you work with baneful or justice magics. It is not acceptable to be casting and then go around with a shocked Pikachu face that your workings were more intense or not what you meant despite the words you said while doing your spellwork. That’s like someone crying and being upset at telling the universe they wish something horrible happens to someone they know for doing something overall insignificant and childish that hurt their feelings – and then that person was seriously injured or passed on. Words cannot be taken back after being cast.

Ways that we can use our words wisely when spellcasting are to really sit and think through what we want to achieve. What is the motivation, intention, emotional state, etc. Then, take some time to write a draft or two of the spell you want to do. Take some time to sit on it and reflect. Make sure it is exactly what you want to say. If it is, then proceed knowingly my dear readers. If not, take time to make the changes you need. Other ways are to find works that already exist and resonate with you and make them part of your life. When working on my own manifestations and shadow work, I like to find meditations and songs that reflect my intentions (Samantha Leah’s Lucky Girl Syndrome is one of my all-time fav songs to manifest with). Lastly, in a mundane practice, be mindful of your thoughts and what you say to yourself and others. Your mindset and inner monologue is more powerful than you probably realize.

Remember, you are a  powerful, divine being and your breath puts magic into the air. With great power comes great responsibility. Use your words wisely. Blessed Be Witches!
