WITCHY WEDNESDAY: The Mother Archetype

Liz Ramos, under the supervision of Carrot Cake the cat, discusses the motherly aspect we all possess…

Greetings witches! With Mother’s Day approaching, I wanted to dive into the Mother archetype of the triple goddess. With her three aspects of Maiden, Mother, and Crone, she is a complete representation of all phases of a woman’s life and experiences.

First things first; you do not need to be a mother to be in your Mother Era and tap into her wisdom. Looking at the Mother in a metaphorical context, she is the creator, life giver, healer, teacher, lover, provider, etc. These attributes can be applied to all areas of your life – are you working on manifestation work and goals? Do you like to do artistic things? Are there people in your social stratosphere that look to you to provide, teach, heal, or simply love them as they are? If you answered yes to any of these -and you should have answered yes to all of them- then you are working in your Mother Era.

The Mother Archetype also focuses on the feminine, and intuitive sides of us. This does not mean we cannot be a powerhouse if we choose to be – the women in my life honestly hold more power in our family dynamic in many aspects than the men do! It just means that we use our abilities to nurture and provide comfort and safety to lead and care for our community than if we led with a more direct, authoritarian male approach in my circumstance. When you look at your own life, where are areas you can apply these attributes to your own life? What situations need a little “motherly love”?

If you work with deities, Mother Archetype goddesses include Brigid, Gaia, Demeter, Hera, Isis, Hathor, Kali, Atabex, Santa Muerte, and many more. These goddesses are creation goddesses, aid mothers/women and children, or focus on healing or other traditional aspects of gender roles (like hearth and home). These are wonderful goddesses to work with if you are working on yourself and being a strong, confident, and self-assured human who is able to support themself and others. I cannot speak enough praise and testimony on how Brigid has changed my life and continues to aid me in my endeavors (especially as a goddess of poetry and wordsmithing.,.).

Whether you are a mother and physically embody these attributes or you are stepping into the power of the Mother, I wish you an amazing and love filled Mother’s Day. May you rise in your power and honor the divine Mother within and around you.
