Hey there, book lovers! It’s your old pal, Ninetoes, coming to you from Ninetoes Loves Books Headquarters. Today, I am looking at Thomas R. Clark’s The Curse of Kate Elder. I have coffee in my system and my thinking cap on, so let’s get to it!
When I heard that Thomas R. Clark had a new novel coming out, my mind raced with what he would bring us this time. Then I saw the cover. Okay, a vampire novel. Got it, cool. I thought I was prepared for it…
…I was not…
…not by a long shot!
I am going to sum up this book in two sentences. 1) If Kolchak: The Night Stalker, Tombstone, The Sons of Anarchy, and Dracula had a massive orgy, this book would be their bastard love child. And 2) Doc Holliday, vampire. To tell you more about this book would spoil what awaits you, and I refuse to do that. You will have to get it and discover for yourself.
There is a little bit of everything and gallons of blood in this book. He does not gently take your hand and guide you through it. He grabs your hand, cuffs you to a chair, and takes you hostage for the duration of the reading time. Trust me, it can be read in one sitting, and you are not going to want to stop until you finish.
This book is fast-paced. Like the flick of a rattlesnake’s tongue, fast. The writing is fluid. The characters are strong, and the horror is intense. It will be a long time before I eat chili again. Yeah, I said it, and when you read this book, you will know why.
In my honest opinion, this is the best book he has written to date.
I give this book 5+ bookmarks out of 5!
P.S. I hope there will be a sequel…
