Major Arcana: The Star XVII

Keep your gaze high and your eyes on the prize, there is hope in the future after the tower falls… Let the Star guide your way

In the darkest of times, it can feel like there is nothing good to hold on to. Where is hope, right? The Star is there to guide us. For generations and centuries, we have used these shining stewards of the night sky to guide us through turbulent oceans and over rough terrain… Why should today be any different?

The Star is associated with the element of Air, which if you think about it is entirely fitting considering stars are made up of many of the same components… just super-heated and going a little nuclear. Anyway, reflecting, air is associated with the mind. Let your creativity flare and use that honed wit. This is not only a time for hope and guidance, but also a time to act.

Which always makes me chuckle a little when I realize the chakra is the higher heart, something meant for universal love. However, if you consider this, when times are hard it never benefits one to be a curmudgeon. Focus on what will help you grow and focus on that kindness where inspiration can spring from.

In addition, the numerological link is Strength (VIII). The Star’s one and seven combine to reduce to eight. When coming out of tough times it is important to hold on to the grit that will propel us forward rather than the weight that will sink us. There is also a link to the symbolism of the eight stars on the card itself… Consider where we get our guidance from.

Meaning: The tides are turning in your favor. While life lately seems to be out to get you, the Star represents hope, guidance, creativity, and is also a healer. Take time to really express yourself in areas that allow your talents to shine. Stop to consider an old corner of your home and what a good refresh may do to it, or maybe a stagnant relationship is ready for a rekindling. This can also be a time of healing. Perhaps spiritually, mentally, or physically. Take time to evaluate how you’re feeling and take some self-care time.

Reversed: Are you bewitched by the fantasy you’ve created in your head? Maybe you’ve been lured into a false sense of security. You may find yourself choosing to give up too quickly or succumbing to the blocks preventing progress. Don’t let these stop you from achieving your true happiness. Don’t let the dream stay fiction… Make it a reality.

Potential Card Usage: You know the drill, shuffle that deck. Once you’re set, find the Star. The card behind it will be the roadblock, or perhaps the devil on the shoulder who is whispering lies in your ear. The card before the Star is what will help you. This is the angel who will help you overcome those negative thoughts and guide you to success.

Symbolism: Let’s jump back to the eight stars. That big bright one in the middle very well could be Venus. While not a star, it is often a light we see in the night sky and Venus is associated with love, creativity, hope, and much more that this card represents. The Maiden figure is important in this card, also linking us back to Venus. Maidens are often associated with eternal youth and creativity. Her spending time to take from and give back to the water also links us not only to creativity, but to healing. Follow this guidance and spiritual healing can begin.

Planetary or Astrological Association: Despite being an Air sign, Aquarius has been considered the ‘water bearer’. These individuals are often free-spirited, highly logical, value freedom, and believe in what is right… especially when it comes to human rights. Seeing that connection to universal love now? While these individuals approach life with a rational approach, they will always put empathy first, which can earn them titles such as stubborn and eccentric.

The next time you stare at a pulsing, too-bright star, try to consider what the message is. I always find myself looking up at the night sky when I am looking for guidance. Listen to the message and you might just find yourself propelled into a better situation.

Happy Readings!
