Elizabeth Ramos, under the supervision of Ollie the cat’s spirit, digs into crystals for this week’s Witchy Wednesday.
When going to your favorite witch’s home, have you noticed crystals all around the home in various places? Have you thought that these minerals and gemstones are merely aesthetic? Crystals are so much more fascinating than many give credit for, and for some are a foundation staple to their witchcraft.
Just like all living things, crystals have their own vibrational frequencies and energies. Each one is unique, and can be used in all sorts of magical workings. The crystals are used as an amplifier or can help alter vibrations depending on the desired intentions and the manifestations you are trying to make in your spell work. They are also used in conjunction with healing modalities through various placements and workings, including Reiki, Chakra Alignment and Bio Magnetic Therapy. Crystals can also aid crystal witches and spiritualists alike through the use of crystal grids, jewelry, or placements in altars.
When working with crystals, it is important to know exactly what intentions you are looking for. For example, if you want to do a spell that is protection against an abusive ex, you probably don’t want to use a rose quartz (meant to amplify love and friendship) in your spell! You would want to choose black obsidian, jet, or black tourmaline instead. This is why writing out your intentions beforehand and planning out everything you want to do ahead of time is so important (or at least really think about it and sit with it for a bit before starting anything – though I still say write it down!).
Common crystals to work with:
Carnelian: Helps to boost self-esteem, creativity, passion, and motivation. Used to open the sacral chakra. Carnelian is a great stone to use when working on a new endeavor or need a little OOMPH to your magic.
Citrine: Aids in attracting wealth, prosperity, and promotes positive energy. Used to open the solar plexus chakra. Carnelian is a wonderful stone to use when working with money magic or manifesting a tangible item or experience (that cruise to the Bahamas or the flight to Scotland).
Black Obsidian: Dispels negative energy, aids in grounding and protection magic, emotional healing. This stone is also used when combating psychic attacks. I personally like this one when dealing with energy vampires and I know I will be in their presence for prolonged periods of time.
Rainbow Flourite: Enhances focus, problem solving abilities, increases mental clarity, reduces stress and anxiety, and allows for unbiased discernment. A great one when doing the monthly budget or filing your taxes!
Whether you are a crystal baddie or just think they are cute for The ‘Gram, crystals affect us every day. Maybe next time you visit your witch bestie you’ll take some time to observe and see what’s laying around – and know why it’s there.
