Hey there, book lovers! It’s your old pal, Ninetoes, coming to you from Ninetoes Loves Books Headquarters. Today, I have my review of The Shadow 1941: Hitler’s Astrologer. I have coffee in my system and my thinking cap on, so let’s get to it!

The first time I became aware of The Shadow was with my grandfather. We were sitting on his patio on Long Island, and it came on the radio. What was more amazing to me is it was in the 1970s, not the 1930s. He found a radio station that played the old serials on Sunday afternoons. He called me over and told me, “This was our television when I was a kid. Just close your eyes and enjoy the show.” I did, and was thrilled I got to share this with my grandfather. “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men….”

A few years ago, I was going through my social media feeds, and an ad came up for The Shadow 1941: Hitler’s Astrologer. I clicked on the link and was taken to where I could get this. Someone brought The Shadow back to life! Little did I know, but Dynamite Comics had an entire line of Shadow graphic novels! The little boy in me jumped for joy!

It is Easter, 1941, and a young woman is racing through holiday crowds in Manhattan…thus begins the story, and it is a race that will go from Manhattan to Berlin, Germany. There are car chases, gunfights, and a battle between a German U-boat and a gyrocopter, and in the middle of it all is Lamont Cranston, the Shadow himself. As both sides are being played like puppets on a string, it is up to The Shadow to find the puppetmaster and sever the strings!

The team of O’Neil, Kaluta, and Heath did a masterful job of bringing the Shadow to life. If I did not know any better, I would swear they grew up with this hero. The story is fast-paced, and the art is nothing short of amazing.

If you are not aware of The Shadow and want to learn more, this is the perfect place to start.

This book is perfect for fans of pulp action, heroes of yesteryear, and a good thriller.
