Hey there, television viewers! It is your old pal, Ninetoes, coming at you from Ninetoes HQ with a look at the sixth episode of Happy Face. I have coffee in my system and my thinking cap on, so let’s get to it!
In the last episode, Melissa received a photo of the man who raped her when she was a teenager, and he was beat to within an inch of his life. Now, I thought nothing of it at the time, just the creep playing in someone else’s playground. But at the beginning of episode 6, Melissa is on a phone call with her father (Dennis Quaid), making arrangements for his full confession of the killing of Heather. Keith (her dad) asks, “Did you get my present? Nobody hurts my little girl.” This one sentence told me just how much reach Keith had beyond the prison.
Keith’s reach is further displayed when Hazel’s friends ditch her at a motel four hours away from home. The group went there to find Keith’s trophies in room 17. Instead of calling her father, she calls her grandfather, and a creepy stranger picks her up to bring her home.
Again, Dennis Quaid stole the show when the District Attorney from Texas goes to see him in Oregon. The DA thinks he holds all the cards when he wants Keith to amend his confession to include Elijah, but the table gets flipped with one sentence that begins with Keith saying “Oh, I’ve been rude, I forgot to ask…” Again, the creep factor was dialed to 11 and he was rocking it!
Just when you think you have breathing room in Texas, Melissa gets a phone call from Ben that brings the tension right back to the forefront.
All of the kid gloves were taken off in this episode in acting, setting, writing, editing, directing, and production. Everyone was on their “A” game and it is only going to get darker. It is going to be interesting to see what happens in the family dynamics all around after this one.
This show is perfect for fans of true crime, courtroom drama, family drama, and crime drama.
