Cat Magic

Elizabeth Ramos, under the supervision of Soraya the cat, gets into the feline side of witchcraft.

Cats and witches have been connected for centuries. Full of mystery, magic, and mystique, cats contain the secrets of our universe. Guardians of the realms, they ensure peace and balance of the universe. Learning the wisdom and workings of cats (even if you aren’t a cat person) can aid you in both the magic and mundane.

As I’ve mentioned before, cats are natural healers. Their purr frequencies are capable of assisting in bone healing for themselves and others, muscle and tendon repair, pain/inflammation reduction, stress relief, and lowering blood pressure. I wholeheartedly agree with this, as I get frequent headaches, and every time I do, at least one of the cats lays with me by my head. I also tore my knee twice, and while it has permanent damage, I do find relief when they lay by my knee and purr near it.

Cats are also amazing judges of character. While some do have an antisocial or nervous personality, I have found that if my cats do not like someone, then I also do not like them. There is a reason for this. Cats to me are like people – while some are lovey-dovey, you ultimately need to earn their respect and trust first. I am working on being more mindful of this lesson and feeling people out more before fully trusting them. Cats set clear, healthy boundaries (even if we don’t fully understand them) and if you can respect those boundaries, you can have amazing cat relationships!

Spiritually, Cats are the guardians of the realms. They see the various layers and spaces of our universe and can travel to and from them. Have you ever snuggled your indoor cat and notice they smell much different than they should? If yes, that’s a clear indication that they have been traveling. One of my all black male cats, Anubis, is especially interested in realm travels. Several times throughout the day we simply cannot find him, and then he randomly will pop up out of nowhere like he just came through a wormhole! On a few occasions he has smelled of trash or decomp, so I had to remind him to please clean himself and get icky smells off before coming to see me. He winked and booped my hand in response, and has been much better smelling since. The first time after that talk he smelled like rose gardens – I don’t have roses or anything rose scented! Additionally, cats are very protective of their loved ones. I sleep peacefully every night and know if there is anything trying to crawl into our space, they have it covered. Usually I have at least one cat with me, and a few others posted throughout the house. Every door and window is covered, and others take turns patrolling the house between naps. My husband and I have even heard our house ghosts or some random noises, and I’ve watched my guys check it out or stare at the spot a bit before relaxing. Based on their reactions, I know the area is safe and whatever it was got the message it WAS NOT welcome!

(Marnie, may she RIP)

Due to their spiritual guardianship, cats are also drawn to magic and magic practitioners. My girlies Brigid, Elsie, and Loki LOVE when I am reading cards or doing pendulum work. Brigid will stare intently at the cards, and if she feels something is important, she likes to bap it with her paws. Sometimes as I read she will also sprawl over the cards I already read, as if to say “you know what this says, don’t dwell, move on so you get the whole picture!”

Whether you are feline-inclined or not, there is no denying the absolute mysticism and wonder around cats. And they make great spell casting companions!
