Is Ninetoes still onboard with the MCU’s latest televised offering after its third episode?
TITLE: Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 Episode 3. “The Hollow of His Hand”
ACTORS: Charlie Cox (Matthew Murdock/Daredevil), Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk/Kingpin), Ayelet Zurer (Vanessa Fisk), Kamar de los Reyes (Hector Ayala)
DIRECTOR: Michael Cuesta
WRITERS: Dario Scardapane, Matt Corman, Chris Ord

“The trial of Hector Ayala begins. Fisk’s old business associates seek to claim his vacant mantle.”
There is a lot that goes on in this episode. Even though you do not see much fighting, there is a lot of tension in the courtroom, in the therapist’s office and the streets. The direction and editing of this episode was superb. One of the most interesting pieces of editing came from highlighting Fisk’s bruised knuckles which went to Murdock’s bruised knuckles. This is the third episode in, and Kingpin/Daredevil have yet to fight, so for me it alludes to something yet to come.
The tension between Wilson Fisk and his wife Vanessa was so tense, I needed a chainsaw to cut it. This is a marriage that is on the outs, no matter how badly Wilson does not want it to end. The cure is obvious to the viewer; let Vanessa take the lead in the underworld. It is apparent she does not want to let go, no matter how much Wilson needs to so he can be a “mayor of the people.”
The acting is top notch in this episode. There was not a single moment where I thought “Look at X play Y”. I believed each actor WAS their character. From the lead characters to the person on the street being interviewed for a podcast, everyone was on point. This is as much a nod to the direction as it was to acting.
There is an “Oh my God!” moment at the end of the episode that left me speechless. It was not so much what happened as much as who was involved. You will see what I mean when you watch it.
IF you are not watching Daredevil: Born Again, you are missing out on one of Marvel’s best series to date. This show is perfect for people that like crime dramas, courtroom dramas, and gritty city dramas.
