Savannah Fischer has the perfect creepy valentine for you today with CREEPSHOW IN LOVE
Every horror is, at its core, a drama. Horror without feeling, is ultimately nothing at all. This sage piece of advice stuck in my brain after attending a workshop with none other than the legendary Mick Garris. So when I got the chance to preview a unique intersection of horror and romance, you bet I jumped at the chance. Welcome to Creepshow in Love.

Skybound and Image Comics have come together to dish up a trio of Valentine’s Day inspired horror. I can’t think of a better way to spend this over-commercialized holiday than buried in these tales. Mirka Andolfo, of Sweet Paprika fame, starts the issue with a terrifying killer in their story “Heart to Heart.” The second story features a love potion gone wrong in “Cursed Casanova” by Patrick Horvath. Our final story is my favorite, featuring a horrible first date at a zoo in “Penguin Avenger” by Yul-Pyeong Oh and Puré.
Creepshow in Love features art that is updated for a modern audience, while still being reminiscent of the Creepshow comics of old. Each story’s title cell features the Creep, a physical representation of the reaper dating back to the original Creepshow film from 1982. However, instead of his usual scythe, he sports a unique item for each story that also reflects their unique art concept.
“Heart to Heart” features the Creep reading a newspaper. The panels are black with shades of green and yellow, allowing the crimson blood to stand out in bright contrast. The art is crisp and vibrant, with striking visuals that harken to Japanese anime.

“Cursed Casanova” shows the Creep with a traditional heart-shaped Valentine’s Day card. The art features a more hand-drawn feel, with characters as the central focus and less detail in the environment. Everything is in neutral tones, which is a sharp departure from the vibrancy of “Heart to Heart.”

Again, to the surprise of no one that knows me, my favorite is the “Penguin Avenger” which has the Creep with a cellphone overlooking a wintry diner. The character design of our female main character reminds me of Sailor Moon, while the art overall reminds me the most of modern traditional comics. It’s got the hand-drawn feel, with no lack of detail of color.

Creepshow in Love released on 2/12/2025 and is currently sold only as a digital edition for $4.99 USD on Amazon, Google Play, and Apple Books.

Savannah R. Fischer is the permanently exhausted pigeon in charge of two well-loved chaos gremlins. When not with her family, she can usually be found in her cave, wrapped in an oversized blanket and dreaming of spinach puffs. She wants to show her gremlins that they can do hard things, even when it’s scary, like pulling the wrong lever and ending up in a pit of alligators. No llamas were harmed in the making of her works of horror.
