TRUE CRIME FRIDAY UPDATE: THE GILGO BEACH MURDERS

On Wednesday there were developments in a former True Crime Friday case, and Ninetoes is on the scene with an update on the Gilgo Beach Murders.

Hey there, true crime lovers! It is your favorite investigator, Ninetoes, coming to you from Ninetoes HQ, and I am on the beat with an update for the Gilgo Beach Murders. I have my notebook in hand and coffee in my system, so let’s get to it!

On July 14, 2023, Rex Huermann was charged with the murders of Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, and Amber Costello. He was also named as a suspect in the murder of Maureen Brainard-Barnes. By 2024, he would be indicted in the murders of Jessica Taylor, Sandra Costilla, and Valerie Mack.

He denied being involved in these murders.

On April 8, 2026, Huermann pleaded guilty to the seven murders. He also admitted to the murder of Karen Vergata.

He was sentenced to three life sentences and four 25-to-life sentences.
